The Great Koizumi Exodus

~no rain~
The Great Koizumi Exodus
Respectively
I must bow out. I would love to do so gracefully
I can no longer conform
Grown tired of shaping and reshaping to your
Inconsistencies
You have made a liar out of this love
I’m letting go while there is still light in my eyes
Before the dark stains my heart
Closed fists,
that beat away memories which can no longer remain simple and clear
I’ve changed. You haven’t noticed
I’m letting go
All those silly lessons failed and learned
They have left me restless with heaviness
They have left my mind crammed with new ideas
Of bigger and brighter futures where…
You are not there
Oh how sad
The ending of everyone thinking we were destined to be
How sad the fairytale coming to an end
For everyone who believed in the fair maidens tale
Of true love and glass slippers that never cut…
Her tiny feet.
I’m letting go
Before I learn the stench of hating you
Before I grow accustom to the evil swirling about my feet
Before I come to know the face of living forever in disgust
While I still care that you live
That you breathe
Allow me to make my great exodus
Go down in history ablaze as the first amicable break-up
The beauty of ending well
Underestimated
I say goodbye
*Note from the Author
~why did i write this and what does it mean? this piece is about leaving an emotionally taxing relationship before things get worse. it’s about making the decision to walk away to hopefully maintain some sort of friendship. you want to leave amicably. you want to leave before resentment sets in~
Soooo….
Who or what is a Koizumi? Koizumi is Junichiro Koizumi, a Japanese politician who served as Prime Minister of Japan from 2001 to 2006. Koizumi’s was quite the maverick. Popular among Japanese citizens, he is the Elvis of Japan. Koizumi had a successful reign by making significant changes to Japan, a broken country in terrible economic shape. He didn’t stay around long enough to become the villain, however. By retiring from politics after serving, he left as a hero. This is why I gave my poem that particular title.
“The Great Koizumi Exodus” indeed.
